Reporter Troy Carter will be providing the live updates in just a few minutes here, barring any technical malfunctions.
Good morning folks - the commissioners are just coming into the room. County attorney Marty lambert is already here along with.
Remember folks, if you've got comments, you can enter them by clicking on the "make a comment" link just above the live updates. You can also comment on individual posts. We'll publish all the appropriate ones into the feed.
Meeting is called to order - like we reported yesterday commissioner Martineau is absent - he is at an affordable housing meeting in miles city
CA marty lambert speaking on wolf's request now
Marty Lambert says he, the county attorney, should be the one to investigate wolfs allegations not a citizen panel
Mr lambert referenced chronicle question to MACo general counsel "has this ever been done before?" - MACo's attorney said not to his knowledge.
Lambert asks "who would want to be on this panel?" .... "Who would they go to for legal advice, the county attorney."
It's clear Lambert is speaking against the creation of a 3 member panel - he said the complaint should be put to the county attorney. He is now saying the panel would have no jurisdiction over Federal Law - "the dept of justice was copied on the request" .... That's who investigates these charges, lambert said. It's federal criminal code. Gallatin county has nothing to do with it.
Lambert says there appears to be no violation of the MCA relevant to the section on ethics that allows the creation of a commission created panel
Public comment opens up - only one person, wolf, signed up
Wolf asked for Lambert to leave since he is a party named as part of the conspiracy
Wolf used lamberts words against him - isn't it concerning that the county attorney admitted that the panel would hear a deluge of complaints, wolf said.
When the chronicle called Wolf last night he said he had no idea that the commission was hearing his request today
Wolf "please restore power to the people."
Please, show the people that they are the power. Sheriff Gootkin just got up to speak.
Anthony Smith, owner of van parked at Law and Justice system, is now speaking about need for judicial reform.
Gootkin said that if wolf or anyone didn't like the way he did his job they could vote him out of office.
As far as I know no one is running against Sheriff Gootkin in the election this year.
Commissioner White speaking now - appreciates everyone coming - re: Wolf's request I believe there was two paths for this county attorney or us the commission. Said he read wolf's request half a dozen times. "As I read this if Theresa any allegations in that part of the law that's when you could consider requesting an investigation- the statute is specific" - white listing types of crimes listed in this section of code says big thing is not financially benefitting from being in public office.
White said he can't support Wolf's request. He should have taken to county attorney first.
Commissioner skinner says he can't support either. White motions to setup a local three person panel per wolfs request. Motion seconded by skinner. Motion fails unanimously.
Outside the meeting room wolf told me Commissioner Skinner/sheriff Gootkin wrong about the public servants being in opposed - said his group plans on - is trying to find candidates to run as write ins for all the offices listed in the complaint - refused to say who those who have agreed to run are.
Wolf said Ernie terTeltge was not at meeting because he is in Butte taking care of some business there.
